At Cheshire Soils, we take pride in delivering high-quality earthworks and topsoil services across Manchester, Carrington, and the wider North West. Our recent project in the Mersey Valley, Carrington perfectly demonstrates the balance between technical expertise, regulatory & eco compliance, and precision ground preparation.
From Restoration to Recreation
The site in Carrington is being transformed into high-quality sports pitches. Our role? Supplying and levelling premium, sports-grade topsoil to create a stable, consistent surface that meets performance standards for drainage, durability, and playability. Working to BS3882 standards, we ensure the topsoil profile supports healthy turf growth, giving the pitches the best start for long-term use.
Working in the Shadow of a High-Pressure Pipeline
One of the biggest challenges on this project has been the presence of a high-pressure gas pipeline running beneath the site. The pipeline is managed through Fisher German, who act on behalf of the network operator to safeguard the infrastructure.
This meant every stage of the earthworks had to be monitored — from soil placement depth to compaction techniques — to ensure we met strict regulations for working over such assets. Specialist monitoring was carried out to check that fill depths, machinery loads, and ground pressures stayed within safe tolerances.
Collaboration and Compliance
Our team worked closely with Fisher German’s appointed representative throughout the project. This collaboration ensured:
- No disturbance to the pipeline corridor
- Correct soil layering and compaction
- Compliance with all asset protection requirements
- Full documentation of the works for handover
By aligning with the New Carrington masterplan and local planning requirements, the project not only meets engineering and safety standards but also delivers recreational facilities that will benefit the local community for years to come.
Expertise That Delivers across the North West & Manchester
Topsoil levelling for sports pitches is more than simply moving soil — it’s about understanding:
- The right soil blend for sports performance
- Drainage and surface stability
- Planning and regulatory requirements
- Infrastructure constraints like pipelines
At Cheshire Soils, we combine specialist materials with practical site experience to deliver results that last. Whether you’re in Carrington, Manchester, or anywhere in the North West, we can help prepare your ground for its next chapter.
